1. If you want the handgun for home defense: Springfield XD mod 2, 9mm, with 19-round magazines

2. If you want to carry: Springfield XD mod 2 with 9 round magazine, or Springfield XDS.

3. For shooting sports, Springfield XDM Competition series.

There are good handguns from other brands too but I only familiar with Springfield Armory.
