And China is indeed able to let all children get basic education--again, which is labor-intensive, just the government doesn't want it. It's a shame to let outsider to sponsor the "mandatory education"--if can not afford it, don't call it mandatory. I personally think sponsoring mandatory education is kind of condonation of a government either a) setting an unrealistic goal or b) incompetent, even corrupted to realize a realistic goal or both.
Besides education, UNICEF feed children and provides vaccines, that directly saves lives. It also help out in crises like the South-east Asia Tsunami and the Darfur genocide. They accept even very small amount of regular contribution, the smallest in England is GBP5/month, which is just a jacket for a year, thus even a poor student relieing on financial aid can afford it.
