its' true that in Mao's era, many people could'nt fill their stomach full. It's true that people were afraid of talking about politics. It may be true that a few or even many who thought Mao was dearer than their own parents? But do you really believe that all (to take a step back, most) people held Mao dearer than their parents? (you may ask your parents or elder relatives for the answer, and if they say yes, still u need to ask more people, many more)
But what's more important, it is true that all the children could basically enjoy the free education, could enjoy a much less costly medical service than now, felt more secure on the steets, in the train or bus, etc( you can also ask for the answers from your parents or other people).
