If there is a need to condemn communist totalitarian terror, you do it at the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. If the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945 was no liberation for the Baltic states, it should not come as a surprise since these small states were Nazi followers. The US system appears to be deteriorating these days, doesn't seem to have better allies to hang on at the mighty 60 anniversary of the WWII.
