Since my old home visit permit (not even the card, a booklet like) was long expired. The quickest way was to enter mainland with my passport. At that time, I could still get a visa at the boarder, which didn't require me to do anything special, but nevertheless, it had record of it. Since home visit permit was for Chinese national only, that means I couldn't get one. I could have cheated, to apply for it anyway. However, that wasn't the right thing to do.
