I would say it is pretty successful. By no means, the Indian mission wants to compete with European or the US, but their low cost mission certainly a high light. Of course, I am not so sure about the actual cost if taking Indian's perspective. Certainly what involved in the Mars mission is a lot harder than lunar mission.
