NIAID is saddened by the untimely death of Dr. Kuan-Teh Jeang on January 27, 2013. Dr. Jeang was a very dynamic scientific leader. He ran a highly productive lab at NIAID and was co-author of more than 300 publications; editor-in-chief of the journal Retrovirology, editor at Cell & Bioscience, associate editor of Cancer Research, and on the editorial board of numerous other scientific journals; and recent past-president of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America. Dr. Jeang’s recent awards include the International Retrovirology Association’s Dale McFarlin Award in 2011, Biomed Central's Open Access "Editor of the Year" in 2010, and research support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
The death of Dr. Jeang is a great loss to NIH and the retrovirus research community, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and colleagues around the world.
The funeral service for Dr. Jeang will be on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 2 p.m., Chinese Bible Church of Maryland, 4414 Muncaster Mill Road, Rockville, MD 20853. Donations may be made to a fellowship fund or to the Johns Hopkins University.
