Free will in common usuage refer to philosophical doctrine. Free will is in contrast to determinism. Determinism believes that everything is an effect of a previous cause, and hence, everything is deterministics. It is kind of like a state machine, at any state, there is one an ony one choice to the next state through transition. Free will however, believes at any state, there are multipal choices that one can choose. Hence it is not deterministics. The incompatiblism holds that Free Will and Determinism are mutually exclusive.
