Dear XXX
I have some general questions about scientific misconduct.
I hate these misconduct behaviors in scientific research too.
Especially, I hope every chinese scientist is honest during their
research although it is impossible. But I know many chinese scientists
are diligent, hard working and honest and their papers are very
valuable.
I know the argument or debate always happen in science. Science needs
argument and debate in my understand. I think the scientifc debate
should be solved or put in scientific journal or semniar in more
scientific way.
In this case, prof.Si said Dr.Wei's paper was merit discussion in some
issue when he wrote a letter to your journal at beginning. But recently,
prof. Si posted an article on a website(xys.com), quoted from journal of Nature this website is set up to spread the
rumors of scientific fraud, to accuse that Dr.Wei's NM paper was a
totally fraudulent one and he also made this accusation in a public
newspaper depend on his some suspiciousness.
Do you think this is a typical method for scientific debate? Could a
scientist accuse another scientist misconducts publicly without solid
evidence? Now a websit ,belonging to a party newspaper of Chinses
Communist Party, is asking its readers to vote on this issue :" Do you
think Wei Yuquan (Dr. Wei) make fraud data in his paper or not?".
Do you think it is good for science or scientific debate? The webmaster
of the website I mention above，who's nick name is Fang zhouzi, once told an English newspaper that almost all
Chinese scientists cheat data from foreign papers without any statistic
data to support his this conclusion. Do you think it, like this, is healthy for
scientific debate or not?
I don't know how the American scientists to do when they make a
misconduct or data-cheating allegation to another scientist.
If you have time and don't mind, I just want to know your opinion about the proper
method for scientifc debate or misconduct allegation.
