So whether 3 or 4 comes first is really not the concern of the story. It is the rule a+b=b+a that the story tries to illustrate.

Actually, I have used this example too. When I did it, I put it 4+3, not happy, and 3+4, happy. That takes away the room for extraneous concerns.
