are different: the former origins from our "impatience", while the later, origins from opportunity cost or the nature of capital--money not putting in the bank can be put in the production, where it can generate more money.
If you are simply arguing something like interest, some polemic people will say: there is no bank for the fruit, or fruit can not generate more fruit, why needs interest?
However, dynamic economics is based on these 2 discount factors: we need to get the trade off between impatience and the gain of being impatience.
