The frontal lobe of mammal’s brain is for decision making and reasoning, which draw knowledge from the other two lobes. In general, such cognitive processes are rational.
However, there is a cortex named, amygdala—a part of medial temporal lobe, which can override rational reaction of the frontal lobe. The reaction of the amygdala doesn’t relay on rational knowledge when necessary, rather than basic instincts, therefore, is irrational in nature.
