This is a book very similiar to a series of books "cui wei shu xue" (funny math) entertaining me when I was young. Actually, they overlapped in quite some questioins (as I remembered, maybe more).

In addition, though not a Russian, Martin Gardner is definitely worth checking out. But his books might be difficult to a young kid (I suggest that they are for the kids at least 12), at least in the term of reading load and comprehension.
If you have an older kid, or for yourself, Dannis Shasha's Dr. Ecco is fun but my feeling is that it's a lot more challenging. Of course, including his Scientific American column.
BTW, I need to praise Dover Publication here. Its math books are very affordable and it has a whole range of old (I guess with copy right expired) books, not only puzzles but also introductory math textbook in advance subjects, and also math history/philosophy.

Hope your S enjoyed it.
