My hair is much smoother and easier to handle. They'll be stickier, dryer and stiffer without being conditioned. The point is, you have to keep the conditioner on your hair for at least 5 minutes so that there is enough time to moisture your hair. I usually wash with shampoo first, then apply the conditioner. I will leave it on while showering. They can be washed out at the end of the shower.
I learned this from a girl when I was in college. She went even further. After applying the conditioner, she wraps her hair with a towel, then continue showering. She'll leave the towel on until 15 minutes after the shower, then wash her hair again. I don't think I can be that patient :-)
