one epidso talks about weapons. The blaster is close to directed energy weapons in reality. Directed energy weapons include many many different kind. The blaster might be closed to a plasma gun, which is inspired by the real life plasma torch. However plasma torch cannot be weaponized. Another plasma weapon under research is called MARAUDER, it requires a projectile filled with plasma. I don't know much detail about it.
