although it is one of the most rigorous study on spirituality, it has many defects, as pointed by itself in its discussion.
1) the follow up period is too short (30days). The acute complications after surgery are more likely due to clinically important risk factors such as comorbidities.
2) since it allows private prayer (and in fact 80% of them affiliated with some sort religions, thus contaminating the study), the additional effect of praying by strangers is likely very small if there exists.
