It is way from possible cure.

The phrase "stem cell transplant" makes me worry about the legitimacy of the study. People are still struggling with stem cell itself, how could they start to transplant stem cell?

It is awkward that the University (or the research group) said no one is sponsoring the study. If you can give me the University name, I am probably able to figure out what they are doing.

Usually, a really early stage clinical trial like this one (they probably need only a handful patients) won't have much money to support all patients' cost, especially if not initiated by drug companies. Besides, Crohn's disease is not that uncommon in the US.

In terms of money or visa, there are secondary questions, and chance is small to get a sponsorship or even a visa, given the obscure trial.
