The 2 retracted papers ( Nature/Cell Biology 2000 & JBC 2001) are still on her list of key publications. For some reason, the other retracted paper (Science 2001, 293, 702-705) is not.
The retraction dates are different: JBC on Nov. 7, 2005; Science on Jan. 14, 2006 and Nature/Cell Bio. in Mar. 2006.
Apparently, the retraction of previous 2 papers (Science & JBC) was acknowledged by Kui Zhu since in a letter to Science for the retraction (Zhu was a guilty person in that letter) Zhu was one of the authors for the letter. A couple months later, however, in the statment of retracting the paper published at Nature/Cell Bio. indicated that "Dr. Zhu did not retrun a signature".
Although the letter stated "The committee found Dr. Zhu guilty of data fabrication and scientific misconduct related to these two (means Science & JBC) publications.", there is no offical statement regarding this incident from Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation. The possible explanation is that Dr. Xu is also under the insitutional investigation and final conclusion hasn't been reached.
Something must be going on... Personally I doubt Dr. Xu is inocent from the data fabrication and scientific misconduct. Stay tuned...
