Black, White Families Swap Color in Ice Cube's Reality-TV Show

March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Two decades after he wrote ``Boyz-N-the-Hood,'' the song that helped move gangsta rap from the streets of Los Angeles to record charts, Ice Cube is still focused on America's racial divide.
He's executive producer of ``Black. White.,'' a new FX reality series that allows two families, one white and the other black, to live for a few weeks in one another's skin. The six- part series premieres tonight at 10 p.m. New York time.
Relying on Hollywood makeup artistry, the Wurgels of Santa Monica, California, are turned black and the Sparks family of Atlanta becomes white. For six weeks they share a house and explore Los Angeles in their new identities. The result is a sometimes humorous, often disturbing look at racial perceptions that lacks the vitriol of Ice Cube's early career.
``Instead of getting mad about it, I want to do something about it,'' Ice Cube, 36, said in an interview. ``That's better than getting on that mountaintop with a bullhorn yelling `F the world.'''
