I don't like Summers oversimplified comments, but censoring due to political correctness is terrible. That senior male professors in science/engineering departments won't make this kind of comments doesn't mean that they don't think this way and treat students/select junior colleagues according to it (of course, subtlely). The only possible way to prevent hidden discrimination is the analysis of the problem first. Unless the problem is open discussed, a more nuanced arguments (for/against it) can not be developed.
The article is not perfect as it doesn't emphasize the difference between the probabillity distribution and the realization according to it. Anyway, a good start...
