Not every GSM phone works in China. If your phone is quad-band, then it is a truly world phone. If not, you might try to make sure it works on 900 MHz. Some tri-band phones in the US still don't work on that frequency (850, 1800, 1900).

And the phone also has to be unlocked to use other carriers' sim card
