Even his monthly ongoing bill of at least $2K after tax is too hefty of an expense to maintain, but if that is all that we need to do for him, probably we will just bite the bullet. However, he runs up $100Ks of hospital charges every 3-4 years, that is just way beyond what we are willing to bear. We have kids to raise, and our own retirement future to worry about.

I won't even pay $100Ks of hospital charges for my own parents on an ongoing basis, let alone my father-in-law.
