during the first fight with Japanese Vals, he shot down totally 8 of them. One reason was: the Imperial Japanese naval pilots had very straight code that they won't break their formation even under attack. This allowed Lt. Swett to shoot them down one by one. Risner was great not only because he made kills. After he shot down the MiG, he and his wingman Lt. Logan flew back, and Logan's plane were wounded. Risner told Logan to shut the engine and he used his sabre to push Logan's, and made it near to Cho Do island to be rescued. Risner stayed with radio connection with the hilo to insure Logan to be rescued. Unfortunately, Logan drown because of tangling by the parachute line while the hilo tried to blow him to the land.
