古罗马的斗兽场，近、现代动物园、马戏团发生的狮虎斗，
大多以老虎的胜利告终。虽然雄狮的鬃毛起到一定的保护
作用，但是老虎会改而袭击雄狮的肚子。达尔文的《人类
的由来》就记载了这样的例子：

In 1857 a tiger at Bromwich broke into the cage of a lion, and a fearful scene ensued; "the lion's mane saved his neck and head from being much injured, but the tiger at last succeeded in ripping up his belly, and in a few minutes he was dead."
