Dylan Thomas is hard to translate, but 巫宁坤
rendered into Chinese his poetry with equal
force and vividness, which is no small feat.
巫宁坤 got his Master degree from the University
of Chicago, a very good university then and now.
In the early 1950s, he went back to China to try
to serve the country, and China served him back
with gratitude: humiliation, starvation, forced labor
reforms, and so on and so forth. All this has since
become routine and familiar: a returnee who was
spared must be a returnee as rare as the daymare.
