Google's new China-specific search site restricts blocks many results on politically sensitive terms such as Taiwan, Tibet or Tiananmen Square. Yahoo has been blamed for divulging information that has led to the jailing of two dissidents.
Appearing alongside senior representatives from Google and Yahoo will be senior officers of Microsoft and Cisco Systems, respectively the biggest suppliers of computer software and hardware.
All four companies have been summoned to appear before the House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Global Human Rights only two weeks after snubbing the same panel by refusing to attend a briefing on the same issue of Chinese censorship.
