I don't know how to disprove the intelligent design by the scientific community (not including Dr Francis Collins for sure). Most people don't believe that only biological mechanics could account for the fundamental sophistication of living organisms. Therefore debates about evolution vs intelligent design made those people to believe in the God's design and evangelicals know this and perhaps might have promoted such debate.

It will always be a problem from churches that are too powful.
