Okay, I see the problem. You not willing to learn something new, which in fact you would love once you know her.
Given the fact that you used (or learned?) C++ a year ago, I'd say your C++ skill might not be to the level of proficient enough to handle complicated things such as bugs and performance. One of the things, for instance, you may not know is the handling of two dimensioanl array in C/C++, which not only may trap you in subroutine calls but also may raise performance issues if they are dynamically allocated. Fortran on the other hand, can ahve you worry free. In addition, neither C or C++ has native complex (i.e. a+ib in mathematics) types as Fortran does, using derived types or templates adds extra overheads.
