回答: Before 2004, The University of Manchester didn't exist. 由 Wood 于 2006-08-29, 10:36:47:

the Victoria University of Manchester (VUM) in its royal charter. People simply called it Manchester University for brevity. After the merger, it is called University of Mancheter in its royal charter.

UMIST stands for the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. It used to be the faculty of Technology of VUM offcially up to 60s. UMIST graduates continued to receive VUM degrees upto 1993, after which it awarded its own degrees although it had received its university charter in the 60s.
