I was at Chicago, I think the 'the' is not an essential part of the official title of the school. The school is always referred UofC, not 'the' UofC. (Yes, I noticed the 'the' on the logo)

As a matter of fact, I put 'UofC' in Google, and it comes up with
the University of Calgary. Surprise.;-) See the logo on their first page, no 'The'.;-)

I guess the moral of the story is that it's no big deal.
