The department/school usually evaluates its employees, with today's "universal" standard, by looking at
1) how much money has been brought into, what re-search areas have been created;
2) how many papers have been published;
3) how much administrative activities were involved and what impact was;
4) what students thinks about.
Studnets opinion can be very subjective and be personal against the faculty if a student failed to get good marks.
Those sea turtles are all good at 1) and 2) presumably.
