The sum of death rate from all causes is over 100%, as in most case, the death certificate lists multiple causes of death. Sometimes it is difficult for doctor to figure out which one causes patient death when patient died with multiple conditions, every disease is contribute patient’s death. Therefore, the national health statistic often report the disease-specified death rate, using the ICD 9 code for diagnosis.
