To provide nation wide medicare, the country must have money to spend. That money utimately comes from tax payers. In a nation deeply divided (largely by wealth), a bill to increase income tax for the purpose of national medicare, that most low income people will mostly benefit from, can hardly pass... Is that the case in U.S.?
